How to create a Monero wallet online in your browser
You do not need to install anything to get a Monero wallet. Here is how to create a non-custodial XMR wallet in your browser, back it up properly and receive your first coins.
No installation needed
A Monero wallet in your browser is not a custodial “account” on someone's server — modern wallets like Feather Web generate your keys locally in the page, keep them in your browser session, and sign transactions on your device. Nothing about your seed phrase is uploaded. That makes creating an XMR wallet a one-minute task with no downloads, no registration and no KYC.
Step 1 — open the web wallet
Go to Feather Web and choose “Create a new wallet”. Give the wallet a name (only you see it) and, optionally, a local password that protects the wallet on this device. Click “Generate recovery phrase”.
Step 2 — write down the seed phrase
The wallet shows 16 words — a Polyseed recovery phrase — generated from your device's cryptographic randomness. This is the single most important half-minute of the whole process:
- Write the words on paper, in order, and check each one twice.
- Do not screenshot it, do not paste it into a notes app, do not e-mail it to yourself.
- If you prefer the classic format, flip the “Show 25 word seed” toggle — it is the same wallet in the legacy notation (see what is Polyseed).
Step 3 — confirm and let it sync
Tick the confirmation box to prove you saved the phrase and press Continue. The wallet derives your Monero address and synchronizes with the network: that synchronization is what fills in your balance and history. A fresh wallet starts at zero — that is normal.
Step 4 — receive your first XMR
Click Receive to see your public address and a QR code. Share it with the sender or scan it from another wallet. Monero confirmations arrive in about two minutes; the coins are spendable after the first confirmation. You can also add more wallets later from the Wallet menu — up to ten on one device — and switch between them without leaving the page.
Is an online Monero wallet safe?
“Online” refers to how the page is delivered, not to where the keys live. In a non-custodial browser wallet the keys are derived and used locally; the server only serves static code and never sees your phrase. Still, browser wallets fit a specific threat model:
| Situation | Best choice |
|---|---|
| Small balance, quick payment, temporary device | Browser wallet |
| Regular use on your own computer | Desktop wallet with a local password |
| Savings you do not touch | Desktop wallet + offline seed backup (paper/steel) |
| High-value, air-gapped signing | Desktop wallet with offline transaction signing |
Three habits keep any wallet safe: keep the seed offline, verify the site address before typing a phrase (bookmark it), and use a clean system — clipboard stealers are the number-one way phrases are lost.
